Great Maine Food Companies

As you all know I am a big fan of supporting local companies.  Local to me is the great state of Maine.  In recent years many Maine companies have jumped onto the food scene.  Here are a few of my favorites and the reasons why.

Probably the most famous of all Maine food companies is Stonewall Kitchen.  I absolutely love Stonewall Kitchen, I have been a fan of them for years.  I highly recommend their jams, jellies, and pancake mixes.  If you ever get a chance to visit Maine, definitely stop by their flagship store in York.  Don’t forget to visit the cafe will you are there, yummy!  On the web at www.stonewallkitchen.com.

Oprah Winfrey can make anyone famous, as is the case with Wicked Whoopies.  This is one of the times when Oprah’s seal of approval is justified.  Wicked Whoopies makes all kind of whoopies including pumpkin, oatmeal cream, maple, strawberry, raspberry and cream, mint, classic and peanut butter.  I particularly like the peanut butter variety.  One bit of these whoopies and you will be reminded of childhood.  Check out Wicked Whoopies on the web at http://www.wickedwhoopies.com/index.php.  (By the way, wicked in Maine is something that is considered really, really good!)

Fairly new to the food scene is Simply Divine Brownies.  This company from Brunswick, Maine is making an appearance with all sorts of brownies including chocolate peanut butter, Maine’s wild blueberry brownie, and cappuccino brownies.  Even though I have yet to sample these brownies, anything that involves brownies I support!  The general consensus so far, is these brownies rock!  Check out Simply Divine Brownies at http://www.simplydivinebrownies.com/products.php

Last week I did a post on Wilbur’s of Maine.  As you know, I love Wilbur’s.  They make great dark chocolate pecan turtles and walking into their candy store is like stepping back in time.  You can check Wilbur’s out at http://wilburs.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc.

So, there you have it.  A few of the most popular Maine food companies, but in reality there are way too many to list them all, I guess you will just have to visit and check them out for yourself.
