Vegetarian Planet - Cookbook Review

Filed under: Book Reviews — Nicky @ 10:46 am

Vegetarian Planet by Didi Emmons contains 350 recipes from around the world.  The book includes segments on breads, condiments, appetizers, salads, soups, sides, rice dishes, noodle dishes, pizzas, chilis, stews, desserts, breakfasts and drinks.  One section of the book that may be of particular interest is the burger and sandwich section that contains a number of veggie burger recipes.  This is a great book for people interested in adding new spices to their dishes.

I enjoyed the section on how to make different vegetable stocks including mushroom stock, carrot and fennel broth, and good old plain vegetable stock.  The one thing this book lacks is any color photographs of the recipes.  I really missed not having an opportunity to see the dishes before I made them.

My two of my favorite recipes in the book were the grilled smoked-gouda sandwich with dipping sauce and the potato and cheddar quesadillas.  Overall, I think this is an excellent cookbook for people just starting out as vegetarians and those who have been vegetarians for most of their lives.  The recipes are very accessible and interesting.
