Saute - Daily Definition

Filed under: Daily Definition — Nicky @ 7:57 am

You see the term saute all the time in recipes, but what does it actually mean?  Like many terms in the kitchen saute is dervied from a french word, sauter.

Todays daily definition comes from the CD Kitchen website Dictionary:

Saute:
To cook food quickly in a small amount of fat or oil, until brown, in a skillet or saute pan over direct heat. The saute pan and fat must be hot before the food is added, otherwise the food will absorb oil and become soggy. The term means literally to `jump`.
